The deserted fringes of East Coast Park (1) [was] the unlikely spot for a late-night drama (2) [where] some rollerbladers spent more than 3 hours saving scores of lost newborn turtles. They were heading inland instead of out (3) [to] sea.
Ricky Hair, 28, and 7 other colleagues (4) [had] just embarked on their favourite sport when they came (5) [across] scores of the tiny creatures crawling inland (6) [onto] jogging tracks and cycling tracks.
"Many, having fallen into drains, were in deep distress while (7) [others] were on the cycling track and sure to be crushed," said Mr Hair. "We simply (8) [could] not leave them there." The police and the National Environment Agency were also informed.
A turtle expert explained that the tiny creatures were (9) [most] likely "lured" by the glare of lights from the beach. The turtles were eventually all caught and released at the nearby (10) [much] darker Changi Reclamation Beach, where they swam with the tide out into the open sea.
